The Change in Health Care: Amazon’s New Way to Get Tested at Home

Category: Latest News

Amazon India enhanced healthcare offerings with at-home diagnostics, a web-based pharmacy, and virtual medical consultations to provide smooth patient care.

Completing the trinity of healthcare service offerings, Amazon India announced on Sunday (June 22, 2025) that it is entering the diagnostics space with the launch of a new at-home diagnostics assistance that allows customers to make reservations for lab tests, schedule and track appointments, and access digital reports through the Amazon app.

What does the Amazon Medical Leader say About Its New Health Plans in India?

Amazon entered the online pharmaceutical delivery market three years ago with Amazon Pharmacy. Six months ago, it launched Amazon Clinic, which provides nationwide virtual doctor consultations for over a hundred different health concerns. Mr. Jayaramakrishnan Balasubramanian, leader of the Amazon Medical category, stated in a report:

Diagnostics closes the outpatient loop by connecting testing with doctor consultation and medicine delivery, all of which can be accessed through the Amazon app. With Amazon Pharmacy, customers get an access to a wide range of prescription medications and healthcare essentials, along with a free telemedicine consultation service and delivery benefits for Prime and non-Prime members.

He further mentioned:

Amazon Clinic enables customers to consult licensed doctors for a range of primary healthcare needs through a seamless digital experience. The addition of Diagnostics brings lab testing into the same continuum of care. With all three services now integrated, a connected outpatient journey, from consultation to testing is offered in the single interface on Amazon Medical in a full stack health model.

The Partner Behind Amazon’s New Testing Services in 6 Cities?

Amazon Diagnostics has teamed with Orange Health Labs, a firm founded in 2020-21, to launch testing facilities in six cities — Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Mumbai, and Hyderabad — covering over 450 pin codes and operating from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.

The company states that while its diagnostic services are initially available in a limited range of PIN codes, its online prescription delivery services are its most rapidly developing service and are available in the maximum PIN codes across the country.

Customers can book over 800 diagnostic tests, receive doorstep sample collection in under 60 minutes, and receive digital reports in as little as 6 hours for standard tests.

How Mr. Balasubramanian Believes Technology Will Change Online Pharmacies?

Along with established health care providers such as Tata-1MG and PharmEasy in the online pharmacy sector and Practo in the online doctor consultation arena, Amazon Medical claims that the opportunity space is vast. Mr. Balasubramanian mentioned:

The market is largely fragmented. There are several established players however it not about speed but about how your ecosystem is built. For Pharmacy, we get lot of orders even from Tier two and three towns. We work with multiple accredited sellers having over twenty-five warehouses and licensed pharmacies. When the order is received, the seller ships it, and Amazon delivers it to customer.

Amazon Medical declined to comment on the nature of the investment in establishing the complete stack health services, which include the Pharmacy, Clinic, and Diagnostic verticals. He explained that order fulfillment is handled by licensed vendors that maintain strict compliance and provide delivery coverage throughout the country.

Same-day delivery available in 23 cities and standard delivery in others areas. Prescription and chronic medications, wellness products, medical devices all available. Auto-refill and subscription options for long-term conditions with discounts up to 25% on select categories, with additional savings for Prime members are available.”

Since its launch, Amazon Clinic has received thousands of consultations with licensed doctors from various specializations, including general physicians, dermatologists, gynaecologists, and paediatricians, starting at ₹299 each. The company mentioned that Amazon Medical will be in the healthcare services sector in India for a long time. Mr. Balasubramanian stated:

Average end-to-end consultation time ranges for about 13 minutes with a free 7-day follow-up support for every consultation. Growth in healthcare services is measured in multi-decadal manner. It’s not a limited scope run way.
